Rene Adrian Sandoval Sr. was a pioneer in the Texas jazz scene from the late 1950s until his death in 2022. A musical prodigy, Rene began playing clarinet and saxophone professionally at the age of 12. He played with Mexican orchestras, that performed traditional Mexican music, and old standards in the style of Count Basie and Glenn Miller. But it wasn't until he heard jazz greats John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley that his true passion was ignited. Rene always encouraged young people who were interested in jazz. Our hope is to continue his contribution to jazz through the next generation.
