I was thrilled to learn that I had been selected as the recipient of the Marcello Rosino Memorial Scholarship. Being recognized for my passion of lifelong learning, hard work and commmitment to preserving my herritage has been validating and meaningful. The support I recieved is easing the financial burden of my education, allowing me to focus soley on my studies, research, clinical experiences and volunteer efforts. Growing up in a multigenerational Italian household, my family taught me the values of hard work, dedication, and love. These lessons, passed down from my late pop-pop and my father, continue to shape who I am today and guide me as I pursue medicine. Like Marcello Rosino, I believe there is power in making an impact through service and compassion. I hope to honor his legacy by carrying those values into my work as both a physician and researcher. Thank you for your belief in my potential. I am honored to carry on Marcello Rosino's legacy and proud to represent my Italian American herritage. Thank you, Nina Garbarino

Thank you so much for selecting me for this scholarship. It means the world to me to share my experience with my Italian heritage and how I want to continue to learn more about it. As a second-generation American, so many people who immigrated from Italy during the large-scale discrimination in New York decided not to pass along their culture to their children for fear of them being seen as "different". I have found being in school and independently learning about the history of my family so fulfilling. Since my Nonna's passing, I've wanted to explore more about my identity and I feel my connection to my past growing the more I study music, learn Italian, and plan to study abroad in the next two years with hopes to visit my Nonna's childhood homes in Calabria and Rome. Thank you again for believing in me and helping to fund my education so I can continue to learn more about my past and share it in the future!
