Mission

We see Sean's passing as a celebration of life; to be good stewards towards climbing and the spaces we inhabit. The goal is to help student climbers transform their communities from the values they learned on the rock and in the mountains. Sean left such a strong impression on the small group of us and we want his spirit to carry forward to improve the lives of others.

Peter, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the generosity that you showed in offering the Sean Allen Memorial Scholarship. What an honor it is to be seen and recognized by other climbers! I received the news that I had been selected as a winner for this award at a rough time in my life. My home was severely flooded in June, and we lost my 21-year-old nephew in a motorcycle crash about a month later. You never know what life will throw your way. I’ve been reminded that life is a precious thing, despite the trials and tribulations that come with it. All we can do is push forward one step at a time and live life to the fullest. I’d like to think that Sean would agree. After applying for this scholarship, I read the article that Outside magazine published about Sean. He seems like a truly inspiring person. I would have loved to have known him and adventure with him. I read that one of his favorite places to climb was Joshua Tree. Of all the places that I have climbed, Joshua Tree is most dear to my heart too. There is something about that place that seems to transcend this world. In my mind, I can picture the sunrise on those rocks, smell the creosote bush, and can feel that rough texture on my fingertips. It’s an honor to imagine that I might have climbed some of the same routes as Sean did. I love that Sean kept a gratitude diary. What a great way to remind yourself to see the good in life! I, too, keep a gratitude diary. I started it several years ago in order to remind myself to be grateful for the blessings that shine on my life. One of those blessings was bestowed by you. I am grateful for your support as I continue my educational path. Climb on, brother. Adam Lehn
