Chiaka Duruaku

The Next Young Leaders Program Scholarship means everything to me and my family. This scholarship was awarded to me one year ago as I stood at a crossroads; as a senior in high school I had been accepted to Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, but I was unsure of whether I would be able to attend. I craved the opportunities, challenges, and growth that came alongside attending college. I wanted to dive into the various areas of study, groups of people, and possible futures in front of me. However, my parents mulled over the financial package. I crumpled under the possible presence of Sally Mae, and doubted my worth. The Next Young Leaders Scholarship contributed to my ability to attend my very first year of Williams. Moreover, it is the first scholarship I have ever earned, and it makes me infinitely proud of myself. A year later, I am still attending Williams, and am grateful for my donor(s) generosity.
