Dear Mitchell, I want to sincerely thank you for the honor of receiving the Safak Paker-Leggs Science Education Scholarship. Being chosen for this award is incredibly meaningful to me, and I am deeply grateful to be connected to Safak’s legacy and the values she stood for. As I begin my Doctor of Medical Science (DMS) program at Shenandoah University, this support comes at a pivotal moment in my life. It does far more than ease the financial burden, it gives me the freedom to fully focus on advancing my education, leadership skills, and ability to serve patients and communities more effectively. Having immigrated to the United States alone at the age of seventeen, I understand how transformative it is when someone believes in your potential and invests in your future. Safak’s commitment to empowering women in science resonates with me deeply. Her story inspires me not only to excel academically, but also to advocate for greater awareness, equity, and representation in healthcare and medical education. As I continue my journey as a Physician Assistant and clinical leader, I hope to honor her legacy by mentoring others, supporting underrepresented voices, and helping open doors for future generations of women pursuing careers in science and medicine.
