As a single mom, I recognize how hard it is and the challenges that are handed to me every day. I have two beautiful children Isaiah and Aniyah. I’m a working mom and currently enrolled into a principal fellowship program. I’m the first in my family to receive a Master’s degree and I will be the first principal in my family. I consider myself to be a trail blazer. I believe you can achieve anything that you put your mind to. I had to overcome a lot of obstacles to get to where I am today. I want to be able to help single moms by honoring the sacrifices, decisions and the will power just to keep going when you have no one but yourself and your child(ren). It is hard and going back to school to further your education shouldn’t feel like a burden. Giving back means so much to me. I want to make the process and experience that much joyful. Back in November, 2023 I lost my best friend. My dad. He was my hero. He nicknamed me Ms. Board of Education. It stuck with me the day he mentioned it years ago. So I’m keeping him alive in all that I do which is why I’ve decided to name the scholarship after him. The Horace Jenkins Scholarship. I want to inspire, uplift and impact lives for the better.
