Dear Chrispin Rainford, I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for being selected as a recipient of the “HBCU STEM Scholarship” you generously provide. Being a winner for this scholarship means the world to me and opens up a realm of possibilities that otherwise would have seemed out of reach. As an applied mathematics major at Norfolk State University, an HBCU, and a first-generation and low-income student, financial challenges have always posed a significant burden on my educational journey. The cost of pursuing higher education, coupled with the everyday struggles that come with being a low-income student, often seemed insurmountable. However, your belief in the potential of underprivileged youth like myself has truly changed the trajectory of my life. Winning this scholarship has not only alleviated my financial stress, but it has also provided me with a renewed sense of hope and determination. With this burden lifted, I can fully focus on my studies, actively participate in extracurricular activities, and pursue internship opportunities that will shape my future career. Moreover, this scholarship represents much more than just monetary support. It symbolizes a belief in my abilities, a recognition of my hard work and dedication, and an endorsement of my potential to make a difference in the world. It ignites a sense of responsibility within me to pay it forward and help other deserving students overcome the educational barriers they face.
