    Honestly, I haven't had a chance to win a scholarship and I think it's really hard for a first-generation student to write a very good essay and get a chance to win one. I have nearly applied to hundreds and haven't gotten a response back, this is only because I'm learning and I'm proud that I had a part in this scholarship, hoping to win the next one.

    Thank you so much for making me a finalist. Although it does not come with any monetary gain towards my college efforts, it is still validating knowing that my essays are being read and that I am not making efforts in vain. I am starting my first season of college soccer at age 16, and becoming the first college athlete in my family since my grandfather, who dropped out to have my dad. My Abuelita is smiling on me from heaven, as I am making my families and my own dreams come true.
