Mission

The Be.Radiant.Ignite.Growth.Heroic.Teaching. (B.R.I.G.H.T.) Scholarship was created in honor of Sierra Argumedo's life. On November 10, 2024, Sierra passed away from her struggle with mental health. She was a student at Coastal Carolina in which she had dreams of pursuing a career in education. Therefor, we wanted to continue to spread her joy for children and education by providing two $2,500 scholarships to those who have the same desires.

Dear Argumedo Family, I am truly honored and deeply grateful to be selected as a recipient of the B.R.I.G.H.T. (Be.Radiant.Ignite.Growth.Heroic.Teaching) Scholarship. Learning about Sierra Argumedo’s passion for education and her steadfast kindness has been incredibly moving, and I'm glad to have learned about Sierra through this scholarship. Your generosity eases the financial demands of graduate study and allows me to devote even more energy to my research in education policy at Brown University, with a special focus on literacy and equity. As someone who was born and raised in East Atlanta and inspired by the strength of three generations of women in my family, this support is not just an investment in my dreams—it's a powerful affirmation of the work I strive to do each day. From serving as Vice President of the Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. at Morehouse to authoring *Just Like You!* and championing equitable education across classrooms and communities, my journey has always been guided by a belief in the transformative power of teaching. This scholarship affirms my calling to return to DeKalb County and help build educational systems that honor every child’s brilliance and potential. Your family’s mission to celebrate Sierra’s joy for children and education inspires me to keep pushing for change. I carry her legacy with me, determined to ignite growth and hope in the lives of the students I serve. Thank you for your kindness, trust, and commitment to educators. I promise to pay this generosity forward every step of my career. Thank you, DaQuan Brown
