My life goal has been the same since I was a little kid. I want first to continue working hard in High school and graduate. After High School, I plan to go to college and earn my associate's degree. Then, I plan to go to a Police academy and become a Police Officer and fulfill the dream that I have always had. I believe my work ethic is set much higher than other people, my work ethic is always good whether in sports, working out, or doing my best in school.
I believe I qualify for any scholarship even if it is just for $100 because I have strong faith that I can qualify for these scholarships and win. Often I choose to fill as many scholarships out as possible to use my time in classes because receiving money for college is hard these days and I always make sure I don't miss out on these opportunities and blessings even if I do not win.

Nickels Student Athlete Scholarship
My name is Dylan Hoglund and challenges come and often go for me as a student-athlete. I frequently find the motivation to keep at times of difficulty. It becomes stressful when I have to worry about the school side of High School and the sports I am in, and worrying about everyday life. As an athlete who struggles in school, That has taught me to do better in something else which is track. It has guided me to make the most out of everything else and do my best in sports because the rest of the team may be having a bad day and struggling so it may be up to me to create that spark for good to come out of my track team.
As an athlete in Track I struggle to have confidence, believe that I am the best, and trust my process. In Track, you see people who are faster, and better at many things than you which often makes you lose motivation and commitment to the sport. For me, I always try to overcome these difficulties whether I talk to God and trust the process he has for me and I also slow down and tell myself I am right where I need to be and It will all come continuing to put the work in. I know that these things will never disappear, I know that there will always be someone who may not put in the work or do anything and is just naturally gifted, and I always tell myself I must work that much harder then.
There are always lessons being learned every day, in sports and out of sports. Playing sports from basketball to track has shown me that you must remain patient and know that not everything will or can come right away. I must always have a work ethic even when things get hard. Every time I step out on that track whether it is for a quick race or a longer one, I run as if it is my last ever track meet and being out on that track. Sports and life have shown me that tomorrow is not promised and I don't know if I will have tomorrow to prove myself and do my best so I must do it today or when I do it as if it is my last time ever, of course with work ethic, confidence, happiness, motivation, and most importantly trusting God.
Overall I could go on and on talking about challenges and difficulties that I deal with every day, but every day I try to keep these negative things and energy around because when I fill my mind with these negative things nothing good can come out of it. Every day I wake up, I try to start with something positive, whether I make my bed, or it is something different every day. In sports, or my case Track, there will always be negative and positive things to take from it, and it is my job if I want to take the negative or the positive, one will never help me but make me feel empty and one will give me that mindset and give me everything that I need to make my dreams come true.
Anthony Bruder Memorial Scholarship
My name is Dylan Hoglund, and I have greatly loved sports since I was a kid. Playing the sports I do from Clay Target League, Basketball, and Track. Out of all these sports Track and shooting have substantially shaped my future. Track and shooting have given me the work ethic I have and have always been there for me. These two sports have changed me as a person because they have shown me that to get what I want in life I must always work my hardest and dig deep even when it hurts. After all, often many things hurt but you must keep going.
When it comes to track I believe I was truly gifted by God to do something with. My sophomore year was the last year of playing basketball while going to practice every day and pushing myself to the max in conditioning I was told every day 'Dylan why are you not in track?" Most of the time beating everybody In the conditioning, which quite honestly I thought to myself, wow basketball is not for me, I need to try out track was one of the best decisions of my life. And soon after I was blessed with the opportunity to go to state my first year in track sophomore year.
Ever since I was a kid the most important interest to me other than sports has been becoming a Police Officer or being in Law Enforcement. Becoming a Police Officer has been in my heart and mind of making come true and I have told myself I will make it happen, working hard and doing everything I can to prepare, going on two ride-alongs, volunteering, and attending a citizen's Police academy which was an awesome learning experience. Doing the right thing has always been who I am, helping people and overall trying to do good in any way has always been my intention which is also why I want to enter this career field.
Overall sports have significantly changed me into the person I am and how I look at life. Without sports I believe I would not have as much of a purpose, sports have given me confidence, good health, and the desire to do good things whether it is sports or something other than that. I believe that track has blessed me with possibly an opportunity to run for a college if I can keep having dedication, keep being a great person, have motivation, decrease my time in events, and most importantly trust God with the process. If that does not happen I still am blessed and thankful and still have the opportunity to enter Law Enforcement and make a difference even if I am only making a difference by helping 1 person in my career if I can make this world a better place by showing that there is still good in this world or by only putting 1 criminal away then that is the place I want to be in and the difference I want to make.
Darran Cherep Remembrance Scholarship
Ever since I was a young kid fulfilling the dream of becoming a Police Officer has been something that would be a true honor for me. I was looking at scholarships and when I saw this scholarship about Darran Cherep who passed unexpectedly and is used to honor who Darran was and what he did, made me want to apply for this scholarship. And to help a person like me who wants to fulfill the position he was once in and follow in the same footsteps he did would be an honor and a blessing.
I want to enter this career field to make a difference by creating peace and doing what is right. There are so many negative people in this world who are trying to cause destruction and hurt other people that need to be stopped. For me I have always wanted to help people and make a positive impact on my community that the people will remember long after I am gone, I know that there are lots of Law Enforcement Officers across the U.S. but oftentimes they are not doing their jobs correctly. My main goal is to be an Officer who is engaging, who listens to the community, and who makes sure they aren't just part of Law Enforcement who wakes up and does their job goes to sleep, and repeats.
For me, I want to make a difference as a Police Officer whether I can help 500,000 people in my career or 1 person. Helping people as long as I can remember has always been on my heart and mind. I have for many years done different kinds of volunteering and helping people. I always choose to help volunteer for my local Clay Target League by helping fundraise and host banquets such as my local town banquet Pheasants Forever. I have also volunteered in my community by helping clean up my town and helping feed people who are in need. I have also gone on two ride-alongs and they are still something I look back on and talk about daily with my peers.
Overall I have wanted to be a cop since I was little because I have a strong sense of right and wrong and I want to be able to use that to help as many people as possible. If I can help solve some of the suffering that is going on in our world then I would consider that a success. I want the people in my community to think of me as the guy they go to whenever they need help, or even if they just need someone to talk to about anything. I believe the best way to have an open mind about things is to have an open heart.
