About

The University of Southern Maine is located in Portland, with campuses in Gorham & Lewiston, and is home to 8,000+ undergraduate, graduate, and law school students from 43 states and 18 countries. USM provides connections with what you're learning in the classroom to what's happening in communities across Maine and the Nation. Academic strength begins in the classroom and flourishes through immersive, real-world learning experiences that take place in the form of internships, service learning, and research projects. Our low student-to-faculty classroom ratio gives you the opportunity to forge strong connections with our accomplished faculty—many of whom hold degrees from distinguished universities from across the U.S., with Fulbright and Guggenheim Fellows among them. These exceptional educators often use their own connections to help you create partnerships in the community that can reinforce your classroom learning and give you a leg up when launching your career.

WHAT I LIKED

While the pandemic made it difficult, USM did everything they possibly could to keep students safe and provide an amazing education!

WHAT I didn’t LIKE

The only downside has been there are some professors that have been here for many years and are not the best. I have so far only had two experiences like this, however, I feel as though the professor/class reviews students provide are taken seriously and are looked into.

WHAT I LIKED

The staff and faculty are so supportive of the students! Almost everyone I met was truly invested in our success and the flexibility to either take classes on campus or online was great. You do not need to spend a fortune to get a good education!

WHAT I didn’t LIKE

As a commuter student, it can be much harder to engage in social activities and the dorm situation can apparently be a little interesting.
