UNC is a challenging school, and some departments are much more difficult than others. The faculty in the social sciences/humanities areas are incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, and you will learn so much from their experiences. UNC is a large school, so the first few years can be challenging to feel connected with professors and even peers while you are in larger classes. Overall, the majority of professors genuinely want what's best for students and are very experienced and wise.
WHAT I didn’t LIKE
If you are pre-med or hope to attend medical school, UNC has an extremely rigorous and time-consuming path that will essentially prevent you from having any form of social life while simultaneously jeopardizing your physical and mental health. The burnout is very real, and the first few semesters are "weed-out" classes.
The school has a large number of quality resources available to students especially when it comes to academics and career services. The facilities are up to par but there is room for growth there.
WHAT I didn’t LIKE
I think the biggest knock against the university is the administration's inability to act quickly to student concerns.
The educators are incredibly knowledgeable and do a wonderful job engaging with the students.
WHAT I didn’t LIKE
The school is incredibly large so if you struggle with time management, build in extra time during your day to ensure you can make it to a class that may be far away.
