It is a great school especially if you have to work through school.
It is a commuter school, so I think your tuition should cover parking. I hate the fact you have to buy a parking pass in addition to paying your tuition prices
UAB is a diverse, impactful institution. So far, I have made several great friends and acquaintances who have not only supported me, but they have taught me many life lessons that I will utilize now and for the future. Also, my English Composition professor has generously allowed my classmates and I creative freedoms when it came to composing our essays. Lastly, her methods of teaching made the general writing process easier and more tolerable.
The communication between UAB faculty/staff and students needs improvement.
The dedication to academics and campus improvement was bar none.
Be aware that UAB started as a commuter institution… as such the culture has an “independent” feel to it. Focus & accountability is necessary to succeed.
I never expected a quiet, naive, person like myself to thrive and blossom at an out-of-state campus. UAB offers the opportunity to connect with many like-minded individuals in a setting where you all share a common goal. UAB fosters an environment that is safe and filled with resources for all needs.
There is so much information thrown at you as an incoming freshman that it makes the transition from high school to college slightly difficult. However, this information tends to be incredibly useful throughout your time here.
My favorite thing is the campus itself. The campus and surrounding areas are absolutely beautiful. It’s perfect for relaxing your mind and easing stress.
I don’t like how early dining areas close during the week. Also, most dining areas are closed on weekends which definitely isn’t great.
It is a great school, but you have to be able to get yourself involved. There will absolutely be opportunities, but it's not the same as a rural/suburban state school. The city is great, but it also creates a different culture than normal state schools.
The dining halls are pretty bad, and there is barely anything open to eat on campus.
