What qualities does Purchase look for in an art student?
SUNY at Purchase College
Hi Amberlin! Thanks so much for reaching out. It depends on the program for the particular portfolio requirements, but in general we are a professional training program. Its important to remember that we aren't looking for perfection, but we're looking for your ability to be authentic. We want to see you, your perspective, the unique stories that you want to tell that no one else can. That's what we value above everything else. Let me know if this answers your question! What opportunities or programs does your school have in place to help first-year students acclimate to college life?
SUNY at Purchase College
Hi Alayna, not only do we have a huge amount of resources available to our students, we also have each of our students start in our First Year Seminar to make sure that they're getting all of the guidance they need to know everything we have available for them. We also start off each Fall semester with our Involvement Fair, to publicize all of our clubs and various organizations. Thanks for your question!

Is it common for your school's professors to provide one-on-one help to students seeking extra assistance?
SUNY at Purchase College
Angela, Absolutely! Each of our professors are required to have on campus office hours offered each week. Not only that, our classes are designed to be as small as possible to allow you as students to really get to know them on a personal basis. Good question!

What do you think makes your school different from other SUNYs?
SUNY at Purchase College
Hi Julie, I feel that the three things that make us stand out from other SUNYs are the unique community that we've created, our location, and the combination of programs that we offer. We've brought together so many different programs, both in the Arts and Liberal Arts, to create a vibrant community focused on collaboration. This, with our close proximity to NYC and our students who are so engaged and creative, we're a very unique spot amongst our SUNY sisters. Thanks for asking!

Do you have a strong business or entrepreneur program?
SUNY at Purchase College
Ashlee, Unfortunately we don't have much in the business realm. We have an Economics degree, as well as an Arts Management degree, which is a Business degree focused on the Arts. But that's really it, unfortunately. Thanks for asking!
