I lived closed to campus and was able to commute with ease. The commuter experience was wonderful with SCSU—lots of parking, places to hang out as a commuter, and activities were easy to access as a commuter. The buildings are absolutely beautiful, many are brand new. The library and faculty were always accessible and knowledgeable. And the theater department was amazing!
WHAT I didn’t LIKE
The options for food were limited, especially as a commuter who needed to be on campus for long durations. The surrounding area was also not quite accessible for non-commuting students.
Whenever I go visit my friends at their dorms, I see how nice they are. the food is okay. the academic buildings are very nice and clean. the overall atmosphere is very good.
WHAT I didn’t LIKE
I wish there were more options for students who can't afford to pay for room and board. I wish there was a way that was easier than applying to hundreds of scholarships just to see if I can afford it without my parents having to pay too much money per semester.
I love the community at southern. It's very diverse and there are many groups and organizations for everyone and anyone. The academic atmosphere is also great. Professors are eager to see students succeed. It is an encouraging environment.
WHAT I didn’t LIKE
I wish faculty/administration was more accessible and easier to contact. Issues are inevitable and it is sometimes difficult to get in touch with some professors and administrators. There are also many programs available to help students with all kinds of matters, but are often difficult to find or access. These programs need to be easier for students to use and know about.
