I absolutely love the BFA Acting Program that I am in at NIU. The professors are extremely nice and supportive, along with the students I've met. I recommend NIU to anyone who wants great professors and to have a good experience.
Sometimes the dining halls do not have the best food options and the food can become repetitive. In addition to this, the water in the dorms is not the best.
I liked that there were a lot of student activities to participate in. I felt the nursing program was good. I liked the availability to work on campus.
I didn’t care for the dorm accommodations
My educational experience at Niu has been decent. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with the amount of connecting assignments. Teachers are always willing to help, I have not had a bad experience yet. It is very self-taught though. You have to be willing to put in the time and effort.
Staying in Neptune or Stenson is a bad idea because those buildings are nasty. The dining halls close early and most of the time the food is not great. I would. not recommend coming here without a car.
From what I've heard, it seems very dependent on the department and what kind of experience you'll have, but the psychology department faculty are wonderful. As a transgender person, I feel safe in all my classes with my professors. Dorming is hard as a transgender person but I have managed to get by with minimal problems.
The residential halls are not perfect and they are very old, but they are kept very clean. The dining hall food is good for how cheap and accessible it is, and you can get some really healthy meals from the dining hall.
I really like the resources available to me and how easily I can contact the faculty. Advising sessions are very clear and helpful. As well as the advisors are well informed and kind. Signing up for classes was a piece of cake!
Dorm situations are not ideal, however, due to the population at NIU, it's somewhat understandable.
