This university has opened so many doors for me. I have found that educators really care for me and my passions. There is so much opportunity to grow.

WHAT I didn’t LIKE

Hawaii is an expensive place to live.

I love Hawaii Pacific University. It is very different than other schools and that's a good thing! Of course, every school has its issues, but the pros highly outweigh the cons here!

WHAT I didn’t LIKE

Living in Hawaii is very expensive. Gas prices, grocery prices, housing prices, everything.

HPU has relatively small class sizes, which allows for a much more personal relationship with professors. HPU's association with the Oceanic Institute and Center for Marine Debris Research also means there is a large number of opportunities for marine research in fields like aquaculture and plastics research. Smaller cohort sizes allow for more leeway and individualization for each individual student.

WHAT I didn’t LIKE

While HPU is located in a very beautiful location, it is very important to keep in mind that the socioeconomic realities of Hawai'i are not nearly as idyllic as commonly presented. Hawai'i, especially Honolulu, is one of the most expensive places to live in the world. The increases in the cost of living due to tourism and importation fees make the islands unaffordable for many of those who have lived their entire life here. If interested in attending HPU, or any school in Hawai'i, please keep in mind the experience will not be constant beach days and sunshine; you will bear witness to poverty and the academic difficulties of attending any university.

I liked that most of the professors are willing to help students in their classes and most are lenient and understanding. I also liked that the school tries to engage with the students by providing activities to do every week.

WHAT I didn’t LIKE

The campus is mostly in downtown Honolulu, so if you are looking to move off-campus, it's going to be more expensive-looking for places around/near campus.
