My education experience with GBC was great. I got my associate of arts in business within two years and the classes are for the most part, VERY doable. Highly recommend a public college before transferring to a university.
I wish there were more and better opportunities for students. Nothing majorly bad.
I had excellent instructors. They are very kind, compassionate, and caring. They were always.
What I do not like about Great Basin was the financial aid department. They need to work as a team and communicate better, there’s a lot of miscommunication in their office. It just causes a lot of problems. Other than that I have no other complaints.
The advisors in the social work program work really well with the students to help them achieve their degrees in a timely manner.
It is mainly an online school there are some but very few social events.
I like that the campus is small and the programs are generally affordable. Financial aid is available if needed. Specifically, I like that Great Basin College (GBC) has several high-quality programs. The nursing program, for example, has been ranked the best in the state for three years in a row! Staff members are wonderful, and most professors have office hours that easily meet student needs. I also like that those in more rural towns can still join classes through video conferencing (IAV), so they aren't necessarily required to commute to Elko to participate in class.
Sometimes it can be difficult to get books at the bookstore, and the waiting time can be a few weeks, depending on the textbook, but most of the time, they did have many class bundles available. Books can be a bit expensive, but not too terrible. The cafeteria isn't always open, so sometimes you are stuck with food from vending machines or finding a place in town to eat.
