I chose this school over UIC mostly because of the commute. Turns out that it was a great choice because of the small class size and how caring, enthusiastic, and helpful the professors are. I am a transfer student and this is my second year here.
I am not a huge fan of Blackboard- the online learning management system GSU uses. I think it is outdated and confusing at first. I got used to it now, but I would prefer Canvas.
I have learned that you must make sure you look at every class they have available for the major you are wanting to be in. Please make sure you understand that there is more to it than just being, for example, an art student. What kind of art student you want to be and what you intend to do with your degree play a big role in knowing if you are in the school you should be in. I love being in college, it is definitely a place where you grow. But I found out through trial and error that my past college was the best college for me and Governors State University was nice and special to me but it wasn't the place for me. Trust your gut and don't run away, find peace in tragedy.
Please look at the degrees they offer and the majors they have before you apply. Also, be careful and learn from the students how the teachers are. everyone is very friendly but If you don't speak up and stand up for what you believe you won't get what you need out of the experience. If you believe your piece is perfect for the assignment don't let them tell you otherwise without you speaking up for yourself. You got this!
