I enjoyed the community and social life, along with the academic prestige that the college offered. Additionally, I was a member of God's Chosen Gospel Choir, which was one of the highlights of my experience at Gordon, and the Clarendon Scholars Program, an amazing community of students centered around urban leadership. The prestige of my academic program allowed me to learn and grow as a student, and the support from faculty and staff was quite admirable.
There were significant challenges pertaining to prejudice and racial discrimination on campus that occurred, which lessened my likelihood of recommending the college to minority students like myself. The college also got rid of both of my majors (Social Work and Spanish), which showed me that the institution did not value my fields of study and career path. Luckily, I was still able to graduate and finish the programs I started, but it was a shame to see my most supportive professors be laid off and fired because of the elimination of both majors.
I like how Gordon College is about building and integrating the community of students for a future of careers and also of the faith. Gordon College revolves around having a relationship with the Lord and equips students with chapel, seminars, prayer groups, and mission trips. Gordon College has a variety of campus life, including diverse clubs for everyone. The courses and majors are amazing. You can explore the majors and the classes and build great relationships with the teachers and classmates. The dining hall and the food are great, and the amenities and resources are great as well. It is around a 30-minute drive to Boston. The town is great and you can do so many things in the heart of Gordon and nearby. If you join Gordon, I hope that you will be at home.
I do not have anything bad to say about Gordon College. There are more good things than bad. The only thing I would say is to take the course load appropriate to you and you're major. Also for living on campus, make sure to submit your housing request as soon as possible because dorm living gets filled.
