Coming to CCA as someone who had been so used to staying in their creative comfort zone. I can definitely say that all my professors have positively influenced me to go beyond my comfort zone and create work that will make my graduating portfolio much stronger in the end.
If you want a traditional college life where you can live out the big university or college experience, this is not the school you are looking for. This is a strong small based community and this art school is small you will get to know almost everyone or at least know who they are. If you want a close-knit community with people of different majors this is a great place for collaborative projects as well.
California College of the Arts is for a student looking to balance academics with part-time work or travel. The professors encourage the students to make art outside of the classroom and be inspired by the San Francisco area. With little to no "party scene" California College of the Arts is perfect for the curious but introverted student.
California College of the Arts administration has not provided the CCA professors, staff, and union with the basic necessities for a teacher post-pandemic. Last Spring the Union went on a justifiable strike lasting under a week. Students' education was pushed back altering the structure of many classes. The strike was a necessary action. A lack of fair contracts has prevented staff and now students from experiencing the full potential CCA has to offer students. This is an ongoing issue.
