I like the support the professors offer, they make their intention of helping their students very clear. The people I have met here are also great, I am in a band so a lot of the people I hang out with are other band kids or other kids also majoring in computer science. My friends have helped me academically in many ways, I have very studious friends and they are also extremely intelligent. They challenge me to continue putting forth effort towards academics and keep my mindset positive. We also bounce ideas off of each other from what we learned in class.
For me, Augustana is lacking a strong Chinese program. Yes, they have 4 years of Chinese here and yes, they have great professors teaching Chinese. I didn’t actually know I would want to double major until coming here and talking with my Chinese professor, but I just came to Augustana and I’m already almost out of the levels of Chinese classes they offer. Another aspect that I don’t really like is how the school advertises, they advertise really well and so well that I was not expecting some things when I came here. I know people do drugs on all college campuses but I wasn’t prepared for the ratio of students who do them and seemingly regularly too. Again this is a normal thing but I wish there were more perspectives on some of the negative aspects of Augustana to allow prospective students to develop a realistic expectation of Augustana.
All of the teachers here are very understanding about mental health, as well as very accommodating with catching up with coursework. The buildings and nature are all very pretty to look at outside.
Personally, as somebody who's shy, I thought a small college would be best but I found it to be very limiting instead. As a grow into who I am I found I like to have the freedom to walk where I like to go, but most things are about a ten-minute drive away. Additionally, with being shy I feel like there's more attention on me in classes, and I've found that's not something that I like. I also found that the dorm I stayed in wasn't up to the standards of what I expected, especially for the price. Overall, Augustana College isn't a bad school academically, but socially not for me. I'm also going into STEM, so it's just not the right fit.
Their diversity programs are many and strive to make every student feel like they belong even as they are far from home.
Take your academics seriously.
The campus is kind of nice and there are definitely lots of good people here.
The cost of living is too high and the location (Quad Cities) is horrible
