My life goals are becoming an international grandmaster of chess, and also have a well-paying job. I am extremely passionate about mathematics. I have a natural talent for it and enjoy it. I also used to compete in MathCounts in middle school and was the first from my middle school (Andrew Lewis Middle School) to qualify for a state MathCounts competition in 30 years. I also have a burning passion for chess. I started playing in tournaments in the 5th grade and have been steadily improving ever since. I persevere. Last year, I took my first AP duel enrollment course, AP US/VA History and spent probably 6-8 hours a week studying and foing homework. I ended up taking the AP Test and got a 5, or the equivalent of an A+ in a college course. With passion, spirit, and perseverance, I believe I would be the best candidate for this scholarship.
