Our goal

In 1995, at the age of twelve years old, Jerimayer Warfield lost his life to gun violence, depriving him of the opportunity to attend high school or college and live out his dreams. Jerimayer was from the 37208 area of Nashville, an area which has one of the highest poverty levels in the city. Many young people from Northern Nashville grow up facing financial hardship, which can affect their views of college. When higher education doesn’t seem like a possibility, students may give up on it and may lose interest in school, affecting their future opportunities. This scholarship seeks to honor the memory of Jerimayer Warfield by supporting high-achieving students who need help paying for college. Any Black 2025 high school senior, high school graduate enrolling in college, or current undergraduate student who is planning to attend or is currently attending Fisk University, Meharry Medical College, Tennessee State University, or American Baptist College who is from the Northern Nashville area (32708 zip code preferred), may apply for this scholarship opportunity. However, those with 3.25 GPAs or higher and applicants who have one or more currently or formerly incarcerated parents are preferred.
