Hi, I'm Brooks Kirby! I was recently accepted into a prestigious photography program that has an annual incoming class of 50 students. I fell in love with the Tisch Department of Photography and Imaging and it is my goal to attend; however, I do not have enough funding to go yet. I work primarily with digital image photography but i'm eager to learn more about analog techniques. I love finding new technological applications for imagery such as scanography, digital collages and digital mixed media. My intended career paths of either photojournalism, magazine work, graphic design or commercial photography fall right in line with the major i've been accepted to at NYU: Photography and imaging I'm attracted to DPI because of the ability to connect to professors and students in a more intimate setting. When I came to visit in October, I was inspired by the myriad of individual directions that students have taken with their images and felt this would compliment my experimental nature. When walking through the halls of the department, I could see the vision of each artist. In a field that requires extensive exploration, I feel its important to create connections with peers and mentors. The equipment and facilities offered for student use is unparalleled. It would be so exciting to have access to film cameras, accessories, flat-bed scanners, dark rooms and lighting equipment. Additionally, the DPI library is something particularly interesting as I want to learn more about the history of different types of images. Being able to attend this school. will help me strengthen my technological skills as well as mold my creative vision. Receiving this scholarship would help me become the bold artist that i've always dreamed of becoming.
