I have always had a passion to pursue a career in the medical field. In order to fulfill this goal, it is necessary to further my education in order to adapt the skills needed to pursue a medical profession. I have always wanted to help people and I have found a specific interest in helping others in health care. A college education would form the stepping stones to making my dreams a reality. I am currently determined to further my education at Texas A&M at College Station. Going to this school has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. The academic rigor set at Texas A&M is sure to prepare me and allow me to excel in medical schooling. I am interested in majoring in biology because I ultimately intend to pursue a career in medicine, and biology is a discipline that requires an understanding of all the sciences. Although I certainly realize majoring in biology is not a prerequisite to a career in healthcare, I believe majoring in biology will help me lay a solid scientific foundation from which I can build from to achieve my goals. There has not been one catalytic event that influenced my career goals. Instead, I believe it was my many volunteer opportunities that influenced and inspired me to pursue a career in medicine. At a very early age, I was afforded opportunities to work with special needs students in my school, and homeless people at Haven for Hope, a local homeless shelter. It was volunteering opportunities such as these where I discovered my passion for people and decided to dedicate my life to helping others. Throughout my life, I have found many opportunities to help others, whether little or small. In my life, I have found no greater satisfaction than helping those who are in need and unable to help themselves. It is these experiences that have formed my determination to dedicate my life to helping others who cannot help themselves. One of my many goals in life is to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Seeing my grandmother struggle with this horrific disease allowed me to look at things from a different perspective and have an appreciation for life itself. I never got to form a strong bond with her because of her disease but whenever we would visit her I would comfort her in any way I could. Disease and loss can strike at any time and it is my passion to take care of others who cannot necessarily take care of themselves. Pursuing a career in the medical field would allow me to help find a cure for this disease as well as comfort those struggling with the disease. My grandmother is a major reason for the passion I have for medicine. Although there couldn’t be a cure in her lifetime, I hope to discover one in my lifetime. With this, I will be able to help other families spend more precious days with their loved ones. A college education would allow me to form my own ideas and contribute them in the effort to finding a cure for this disease. Although I realize this is almost an unrealistic goal, with education and knowledge anything is possible. Although I haven't decided what specifically I want to do in the field of medicine, by majoring in biology, I believe I will be preparing myself for the rigors of any medical curriculum. Students who study for a career in medicine, study many of the same subjects a biology major will study as an undergraduate. I can think of no better way to prepare myself to achieve my dreams than to study subjects relevant to my chosen career goals. Overall, I believe that receiving a college education is necessary to achieve great goals. Knowledge is one of the greatest powers I can have, and no one can take this away from me. Earning a degree opens so many opportunities for me. If pursuing a career in medicine does not work out, I will have so many other options to pursue thanks to my level of education. In today’s competitive world, receiving a college education has become necessary in the attempt to become successful. Although some have found fame and success without a higher education, it is rare and undependable. Education has contributed to who I am today by allowing me to discover my passions. If it weren’t for the education I have received so far, I would have never discovered my passion for the medical field. My science classes have formed my interest in medicine and for that I am thankful. It can only be assumed that with furthering my education I will find new passions to pursue. I am extremely excited to further my education and at one of the best schools in Texas. Receiving a college education is going to help me to achieve my many goals and become successful in life. Knowledge is a power that no one can take away from us. It opens so many doors in our lives and the opportunities that come with a college education are almost endless. Receiving this scholarship would bring me closer to being able to afford the college education myself and my parents have always dreamed of. It would prove that my hard work throughout high school was worth it. I am extremely excited to further my education and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to financially support my dreams.
