Currently, I hope to attend a four-year university to obtain my Athletic Training degree, with an emphasis in Sports Medicine. Then I plan to move onto Medical School and become a physician. In middle school I had the opportunity to research several occupations that interested me, and after finishing my research, I knew I wanted to become a physician and have a strong interest in the Radiology field. I also want to be able to serve those that have difficulty getting quality health care. I have always loved assisting people and fixing problems, and I feel that becoming a physician would be the pinnacle of assisting people. Fortunately, I was accepted into my high schools Externship program, and have been externing with a local Radiologist, Dr. Mary E. Swain, of Radiology Associates of Tallahassee, during my senior year. I have been shadowing Dr. Swain, as well as many technicians, and have been able to observe mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies and well as learning to read films (x-rays, CAT scans and MRIs), as well as accompanying Dr. Swain to the hospital weekly. I am also lucky to have the opportunity to shadow other employees of the practice, such as Front Staff, Fiscal, Human Resources, and other upper management staff in the office. Everything I have been experiencing through my externship has helped me realize my passion for medicine and will help me understand and appreciate staff/co-workers when I begin my career as a physician and help the people of my community.
