I am currently a junior student attending Elizabethtown College pursuing a major in finance and a minor in mathematics. In addition, I am a first-generation college student. Recently I was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and was honored to be on the Dean's list as well.
I am a part of the 2% of Americans that work on a farm. For the past seven years, I have faithfully worked on my family's dairy farm and thus developed a strong work ethic. Because I grew up in a minority, I saw the importance of sharing stories and education. Therefore, I took the initiative to educate others on agriculture by starting a social media page with my sister. I am passionate about learning and acquiring new skills too. Ideally, I hope to work as a banker or financial planner by helping others manage their finances. I am solely paying for my entire college tuition because I feel it is my responsibility and it motivates me to work harder.
One of my goals is to have a successful nonprofit side business. I want to construct an ice cream cart to serve at local parks. Then use those profits to serve free ice cream to firehouses, children’s hospitals, and homeless shelters. At the end of the day, my ultimate purpose is to bring smiles to strangers’ faces.

Bold Moments No-Essay Scholarship
Love was not isolated in 2020. One of my proudest moments was when I organized and designed a t-shirt fundraiser for an orphanage. I was able to raise 100 dollars to support the Noah's Ark Orphanage in Jamaica which I visited two years before. I look forward to seeing those kids again, but I was able to make an impact where I was placed. The borders didn't limit me from being bold and sharing love in a difficult year.
First Generation College Student Scholarship
I was being torn between the comfort of familiarity and a new, exciting experience. I have never been one to be adventurous or go against the grain. My grandfather, father, and even my older sister choose the farm over college. However, I had the option and passion to go in another direction.
I believe the greatest challenge I have ever faced was the journey to becoming a college student. It was not my academic journey that was challenging, for I feel I adequately prepared for that in high school. I grew up on a small dairy farm; I grew to love the work and position I had. My decision for after high school was to either work full time on the farm or go to college. Some may see this as a good problem to have, but nevertheless it was a challenge and predicament for me.
I was able to overcome my doubts, my hesitations, and my fears through the support of my faith and family. I may not have had the expertise from my parents on the FAFSA or other applications. But I had their encouragement and that is all I needed. I believe it is easier to overcome something when you have the motivation and drive to do something different. In addition, I did plenty of research on colleges, degrees, and programs to ensure my confidence in this choice. I feel that meeting with mentors, graduates, and counselors was beneficial as well.
Even when I made my mind to attend college, other obstacles came my way. This spring and summer itself was a challenge to find a new normal with taking AP tests and finishing up high school. Not to mention not knowing what to expect from college because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, just like before I am grateful to my family for providing strength and reassurance.
Now that I am in college, I know I made the right decision. I learned that no one can force you to make a decision, but the people in your life can influence your choices and actions. My parents and friends were supportive of both pathways; yet I ultimately had to determine which path to take. I learned that we all need to be bold and fearless in order to succeed. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to attend college and the value it will bring to my life.
